Mid-term 1 - 2025 update
It is pleasing to note that there has been a lot of academic progress and new friendships have formed in the first half of our term here at JPIC. Our new students are now in a familiar routine and our continuing students have extended a warm welcome to their new classmates.
It is pleasing to see all our JPIC students proudly wearing their JPC uniforms, creating a wonderful atmosphere up at Crockett. We appreciate your support in ensuring they have named hats and uniforms.
This week, students will be given their Mid Term assessment tasks across all their key learning areas: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Mathematics. We look forward to seeing their progress and celebrating their achievements. These assessments will help us understand their strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed.
Students have been able to reflect on their learning in the HPE program and set learning goals for the second half of our popular Aquatics program.
Foundation Day
Foundation Day is a time to pause as we come together as a school community to honour and acknowledge the history and vision the College forefathers had for John Paul College. The school started 43 years ago and remains committed to the school values: Mutual respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence. Mr Gore (JPC College Chaplain) spoke passionately about the importance of having a strong foundation.
The JPIC HSP program helps students build a strong foundation by providing targeted support across the important macro-skills: Reading, Writing, Listening and Maths. Our specialist teachers help with Maths and HPE. The experienced JPIC educators teach our students the strategies and knowledge to help prepare them for the next stage of their pathway to the main school.
Our learning and teaching environment is firmly vested in ensuring our students have a love for learning and are well-equipped to transition smoothly and confidently to their main school academic pathway. We always look forward to hearing they go and look forward to seeing them when they come visit us at JPIC.

Term 1 2025 Aquatics

|
Our Term 1 HPE classes with our JPIC HPE teacher Mr O’Keeffe is supported by the addition of experienced swim instructors from Absolute Aquatics, in the pool at John Paul College. Swimming is an important skill that can be used throughout life, whether for leisure, fitness or safety.
The aquatics program is a very important part of our Term 1 HPE program and promotes water safety, as well as improving cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and coordination. Our students are placed in different swimming ability groups, and are monitored by our swim instructors Ms Jasmine, Ms Isabella and Mr O’Keeffe. This week, we reach the half-way point for our Aquatics program, and students completed a Survey to reflect, evaluate progression and to set personal learning goals for the 2nd half of our program which resumes next week. |
Fun-fact!
Swimming lessons and learning to swim, is a new experience for over 20% of our JPIC cohort.
This is the first time some students have participated in a swimming program. The positive impact and experience of learning to swim will not only boost our student’s confidence in the water over time but will also enhance their overall physical fitness and social interactions.

| JPIC Term 1 Student Leaders Our JPIC students have some wonderful role-model ‘student leaders’ this term. We had passionate speeches were delivered by prospective JPIC student leaders in front of their JPIC teachers and peers. Students then cast their votes and we are delighted to announce this term our elected JPIC leaders are Mion and Eva (level 4), and Kingston and Benjamin (Level 5). The importance of being a JPIC student leader:
Eva: For me being a leader is “being helpful and treating everyone with kindness”.
Benjamin: It means “ensuring everyone communicates and participates together; bringing everyone together at JPIC – friendship and unity, so no one is alone and everyone has a friend”.
Mion: The importance of ‘being friendly and talking to everyone’ helping everybody at JPIC.
Kingston: The importance of helping others. “I can’t change the world, but I can help make the world a better place and a difference for someone else.” We look forward to the wonderful contribution from this term as we approach the mid-term DARTS Assembly and our traditional JPIC Graduation at the end of term.

Study tours

|
This term JPIC hosted groups of students from Japan, and Shanghai. The intercultural exchange experience is enriching for all participants, fostering mutual understanding and respect. The short-term students had learning opportunities within our JPIC campus and during their day experiencing a JPC class. Their intensive English language immersion in both the classroom and with our host families afforded many opportunities for students to improve their language skills. Lasting friendships and life-long memories were made on their stay which highlighted the importance of cultural diversity and the importance of English as a universal language in our increasingly interconnected world. We thank the wonderful host families who took care of our students outside of class time. |
