Welcome to Term 3 at JPIC

Tuesday 15 July 2025 marked the beginning of Term 3

We warmly welcomed our new students and continuing students and families into the JPIC family!

At John Paul International College (JPIC), our preparation pathway programs are designed to provide intensive academic and cultural readiness for international students preparing to transition into primary and high school settings. These programs focus on achieving strong outcomes across all key learning areas while supporting students to grow and thrive—in the classroom and beyond.

Academic and Co-curricular Excellence

John Paul College (JPC) offers an enriching learning environment supported by outstanding facilities and professional staff. Students enjoy access to:

  • The Noelene Munns Learning Centre, where they can study and borrow resources.
  • The nationally recognised Performing Arts Program, which includes Band and Strings, Choral and Vocal, Cheerleading, Dance, and Drama.
  • Comprehensive sporting opportunities, including participation in Sports Academies, the High Performance Academy, and TAS (The Associated Schools) competitions.

On the first day of Term 3, College Principal Mr Merritt officially welcomed all JPIC students during the Welcome Assembly, reminding them of the JPC values: Mutual Respect, Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence.

Mr Ferguson, Director of International and Accommodation Operations, also addressed the students, as did our current International Captains, Kevin and Sophia. We also introduced our new incoming captains, Kevin and Jasmine, who will continue engaging with students during break times at Crockett.

We were excited to welcome a new group of students to our IPP Program this week—a comprehensive program tailored to support primary-aged international students on their pathway to JPC's primary school.

Led by our specialist primary welfare teacher, Mrs Jenene Cooper, and supported by a team of JPIC teachers, the IPP program focuses on developing both academic proficiency and cultural understanding.

We also hosted a Parent Information Session and Meet & Greet this week. Parents had the opportunity to meet Mrs Cooper and the specialist teachers who will be working closely with their children. Below are some photos from the event.

Academic Progress and Attendance

Learning is central to the daily routine at JPIC. Teachers continuously monitor student academic progress through a variety of activities, including:

  • Weekly review quizzes
  • Comprehension and spelling tests
  • Oral presentations
  • Mid-term and end-of-term assessments

Students who require additional support receive personalised assistance through a monitored intervention plan, including weekly after-school sessions.

Attendance is equally important.JPIC teachers mark the roll every morning during Academic Welfare (AW) at 8:20 am. Regular attendance helps ensure students stay on track academically and remain fully engaged in their learning.

Please inform the office via email or phone if your child is going to be absent. We appreciate your partnership in supporting your child's academic success.

Co-curricular participation

In addition to academic excellence, JPC offers a holistic education through a wide range of co-curricular programs that nurture students' spiritual, cultural, service, performance, and sporting interests.

Refer to the Parent Handbook and Co-curricular Code of Conduct for more details.

Uniform

Wearing the JPC uniform fosters a sense of pride and belonging in our students. A reminder that the winter uniform, including the College blazer and tie, remains compulsory this term.

You can view uniform requirements via the Uniform Lookbook and make purchases through the Retail Centre Web Store.

We thank our parents and carers for ensuring students consistently meet the College's high standards of appearance and conduct.

Travel Day - Fenton village boarders & Homestay students

Friday 19 September will be a designated Travel Day for students living in Fenton Village boarding or homestay arrangements.

Students flying home for the holidays are encouraged to depart either before school or during the day. Absences due to travel on this day will not affect attendance records.

Please note: students travelling in the evening are still expected to attend school during the day.

For travel-related questions, contact Mrs Berg - Homestay Manager.

International Summer Camp

We were pleased to welcome students into our International Summer Camp this week.

The program offers a blend of English language and academic instruction, tailored to suit all proficiency levels. Students also experience daily life in Australia through our Premium Homestay Program, which provides a rich cultural exchange and personal growth opportunities.

Living with a local family helps students build meaningful connections, develop confidence, and gain valuable insight into Australian customs and culture.

New Parent Information sessions and New Student Orientation

Our Pre-Term 3 Orientation and New Parent Information Sessions were well-received and provided a great opportunity for the JPIC team to meet our new families. With in-language support available, parents were able to connect with staff and gain insights into the JPIC and JPC community.

We are excited for the term ahead and look forward to supporting every student on their pathway journey at JPIC.
