In the past days, the Australian Prime Minister has indicated that the Australia borders will start to gradually open; however, there are still some details to be finalised
What we know
- From November, it is planned that Australian citizens and permanent residents will be allowed to travel in and out of Australia.
- Australian Citizens and permanent residents will be required to quarantine at home for 7 days when returning to Australia if they are fully vaccinated.
- The Australian government has recognised the below vaccines for travel:
- Pfizer (Comirnaty)
- AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria)
- Janssen-Cilag (COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen)
- Moderna (Spikevax)
- Coronavac (Sinovac)
- Covishield (AstraZeneca/Serum Institute of India)
- Different states in Australia will open up at different times due to differing vaccination rates.
What we don’t know
- We do not know when international students will be able to travel in and out of Australia
- We do not know if or when other vaccines will be recognised by the Australian government
At this stage, I recommend that you should wait to book flights for your child to return home over the summer holidays, until we can be sure that students will be allowed back into Australia for the start of Term One 2022.
John Paul International will keep you updated as the Australian and Queensland Governments make announcements about borders.
