EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM Excellence Awardee for the AEA Best Student Wellbeing Program

JPC is delighted to announce that we have been recognised as an Excellence Awardee at the 2024 Australian Education Awards (AEA). These prestigious awards honour the outstanding achievements of the nation’s top schools, principals, teachers and exceptional curriculums. Our Extended Day Program has been nominated for Best Student Wellbeing Program.

Since 1997, John Paul International College (JPIC) has led the way in providing innovative programs for international students. Our Extended Day Program (EDP) is a unique initiative designed to enhance international students’ academic and wellbeing support, fostering a stronger connection to the College community.

The EDP is open to all students, with a particular focus on those in homestay accommodation and ‘international’ day students in Secondary School. For homestay students, the EDP is included in their fees, seamlessly integrating academic and extracurricular activities. The program aims to boost student engagement with co-curricular offerings, improve mental health through a structured pastoral care program, support academic success with supervised study sessions, and instil a sense of community and belonging. Students are provided with tutors, dinner and late school buses home.

Students have expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude for the program, saying that it has supported them with homework, assignments and revision, while also nurturing their hobbies, passions and friendships.

The EDP operates every Tuesday and Thursday, extending the student experience until 6.15pm. It is an integral part of our homestay program and is also available to international students not residing with us. Our bilingual staff, proficient in Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese, are on staff and ready to assist with any challenges.

‘I really like the EDP because it gives me more time to study and learn new things. The teachers and tutors are very helpful and friendly. They always answer my questions and give me feedback. The EDP makes me feel more confident and happier at school."- Sam To, Year 12 student from Vietnam
‘I enjoy co-curricular at school. They are fun and relaxing. I can play basketball with my friends.’ - Ivan Zenin, Year 11 student from Russia.

The EDP focuses on supervised study, creating an environment conducive to academic success. JPIC’s EDP offers the benefits of boarding, providing enhanced oncampus supervision, academic support and access to cocurricular activities, all within a nurturing community. We take pride in pioneering comprehensive services beyond traditional education, ensuring our international students thrive in all aspects of their College life.
