Following a successful visit to São Paulo last year, John Paul College is proud to announce its partnership with the São Paulo Government Scholarship Program — a significant milestone in the College’s commitment to global education, and one made possible with the valued support of Trade and Investment Queensland and Austrade.

This January we welcomed our first cohort of Brazilian scholars to the Daisy Hill campus. Selected through a competitive government scholarship program, these students have travelled more than 15,000 kilometres to study with us, and we are honoured to be their home away from home.

Premium support from the moment they arrive

Travelling for more than thirty hours is exhausting, particularly for young students making their first major international journey. Every scholarship student is met at Brisbane Airport by private transfer and taken directly to their homestay family, where they can rest and begin settling into Australian life.

Our Premium Homestay Program is central to the JPC international experience. Each host family is carefully matched with a student, offering not just accommodation but genuine cultural immersion, pastoral care and the warmth of an Australian family. Host families are rigorously selected and supported with regular check-ins, so every student receives consistent care throughout their stay.

A first week on a 33-hectare campus

The first day of school began with a full orientation led by our Head of Year 10. Students were welcomed into the JPC community and introduced to the support structures that would guide their time with us — from the International Student Services team to their year-level coordinators.

John Paul College spans 33 hectares of purpose-built facilities, among the largest school campuses in Queensland. In their first week our Brazilian students explored classrooms and specialist learning spaces, sporting fields and quiet garden areas. With a campus this size, a single tour can only cover so much: the performing arts centre, aquatic centre and dedicated international student spaces are still ahead of them.

Looking ahead

This partnership represents John Paul College’s ongoing commitment to international education, with a further intake of scholarship students planned each term across 2026. We look forward to building lasting connections between Australia and Brazil.

We extend our sincere thanks to Trade and Investment Queensland and Austrade for their support in making this partnership possible, and to the São Paulo Government for entrusting us with these young scholars. You can read the students’ own account of their time here in our São Paulo student story.
