PIC graduates and direct-entry students proudly received a total of 35 prizes between
them. This is a great achievement, as most are studying in a new country, in a language
other than their mother tongue and without family…therefore an even greater achievement!
Congratulations to the following Year 12 students who won these major prizes:

Sumin Jang from South Korea, who received The Foundation Teachers’ Prize, The Rob Marr
Cup, Year 12 Academic Honours, IB Mathematics Prize and the IB Experimental Sciences
Prize. Sumin will study a Bachelor of Science/Pharmacy at the University of South Korea.

Kevin Yu from South Korea, who received the KH Farmer Memorial Award and
Year 12 Academic Honours. Kevin will study Aviation / Space Science in Sydney.

Alex Hung from Taiwan, who received the Robinson Prize for Mathematics C,
the Enright Prize for Physics and Year 12 Academic Honours. Alex plans to study
Engineering in Melbourne.

Maya Furmanovsky from Japan who received The Darnley Prize for Chemistry and
Year 12 Academic Honours. Maya will return to Japan to study at one of the top
universities in Tokyo.
Visa Students ACHIEVE GREAT success
J
ohn Paul College Year 8 international student, Via Lim from South Korea,
has won a Queensland Youth Art Award.
The Queensland Youth Art Awards has grown to become South East
Queensland’s premier student art exhibition and is open to all schools in the
South East Queensland region. The exhibition was founded to provide young artists
with a venue to exhibit their work and receive public comment and recognition.
Each school involved contributes the highest standard of art works from Visual
Arts students in Years 6 to 12. The exhibition displays hundreds of works of fine art;
drawings, sculptures paintings photographs and mixed media works and John Paul
College hosts this prestigious event on a rotational basis.
Via was also awarded an Academic Honour, the Applied Design Prize and German
Prize at the College’s recent Speech Night.
