Around Campus

JPC graduate and steeplechaser, Genevieve LaCaze will make her World Championship debut less than a week to the day she did the same at the 2012 Olympic Games.

LaCaze ran an IAAFWorld Championships A-Qualifier time of 9:37.62 sec in the 3000m steeplechase at Puerto Rico’s Ponce Grand Prix last weekend to seal her place in the Australian team to go to Moscow in August. Her time was faster than her performance in London and was enough to gain automatic selection following her national title last month. Her first race is scheduled for August 11.

Keiren Joins the Bolshoi

John Paul College Year 7 student Keiran Bofinger recently had an opportunity that professional dancers with twice his experience would relish. Kieren took the stage and concluded a series of performances with Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet in Le Corsaire at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

The Ballet performed in Brisbane for the first time in nearly 20 years, and Kieren had the chance to audition for a role. The show received raving reviews after the opening performance. Kieren will also take part in the Queensland Ballet Junior Program and in the Level 2 Interstate Training Program with the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne.
